Dammam King Fahd International airport served as a base for US Airforce A-10 fleet and also the 101st Airborne unit during the first Gulf War. The commercialization of the Airport was not allowed until 1999 when all the Airlines moved its fleet to King Fahd airport from Dharan International Airport. Dammam city connects to Bahrain via a bridge where the nightlife attracts the young Saudi population during the weekends.
Dammam King Fahd International Airport has one terminal with six floors, and a Royal Terminal for the use of the Royal Family. General aviation services like parking, jet fuel, maintenance, and catering are provided by Saudi Private Aviation FBO located northeast of the field at the end of the runway 16 L.
